Peeling and Chipping – Floor Finish Losing Bond
A finish failure where the coating flakes, chips, or lifts away from the floor.
Published
What it is
Peeling and chipping are finish failures where the coating flakes, chips, or lifts from the floor.
Signs
- Flakes in high-traffic areas
- Edges of finish lifting when scratched
- Chips around scratches or worn spots
- A coating that separates from the old finish underneath
How ReCoat handles it
ReCoat checks for contaminants, acrylics, waxes, oil soap residue, and adhesion risk before selecting a service path. Compatibility and adhesion checks help determine whether ReCoating is appropriate.
Why it matters
If the old surface will not accept a new coating, adding more finish can make the problem worse. The surface has to be compatible before the final coat goes down.
