Insufficient Cleaning – Residue Left Before Floor Work
Dust, grease, cleaner residue, or debris left on a floor before sanding, staining, ReCoating, or finishing.

What it is
Insufficient cleaning means the floor was not fully cleared of dust, grease, soil, old polish, cleaner residue, or loose debris before the next step in the refinishing process.
Signs
- Dust clouds when the surface is wiped
- Sticky spots from grease or cleaner residue
- Debris showing up once sanding, staining, or coating starts
- Finish that looks rough or contaminated after it dries
How ReCoat handles it
ReCoat starts by identifying what is on the floor, then uses the right cleaning path before ReCoating or refinishing. That can include vacuuming, microfiber wipe-downs, solvent testing, pH-neutral cleaning, acrylic or wax removal, and an adhesion check before a new finish is applied.
Why it matters
Most finish problems are preparation problems. A floor that looks ready can still have oil soap, silicone, acrylic polish, or soil on the surface. If those contaminants stay in place, the new finish may not bond correctly.
